Day 15!
So I went to Cambridge... and they did not let me in. Most of the colleges were closed due to final exams. Thus, I finally understand how the characters from National Vacation must have felt. Regardless, Cambridge is a beautiful town and the weather was perfect that day. No rain!
First, after getting my picture with all of the famous colleges that make up Cambridge University, or rather the gates leading to the colleges, Katie and I went to a local market where I found all kinds of wonderful gifts. We then walked down some beautiful and crowded cobblestone streets till we found a free museum on geology and another on anthropology. I was having a field day. I do love museums, but I believe Katie could only stare at rocks for so long.
We then walked to the Fitzgerald Museum, which was also free! It contaiined collections from ancient Egypt and Rome as well as other random artifacts and paintings. There were apparently parts of the museum where you were not allowed to take pictures, but nobody told me. I snapped a picture and before I knew it I was being yelled at by a security guard. However, my friend who went to Rome this weekend took pictures of the Sistine Chapel and did not even get noticed... Seems to be my luck. Haha.
Afterwards, we walked back across town to find a restaurant and settled on Italian. I thought I ordered a small, individual pizza but instead ordered a pretty big one. Being me, I shamelessly ate the entire thing. But, I drank a glass of wine with it, so that makes it classy, right?
We then picked up a few gifts for back home and then walked along the "backs" which is basically a big grassy area behind the colleges. There we watched people punt down the river. They were in long flat bottom boats and pushed themselves down the river with long sticks. Some where very good at it. Some were definitely not. We even saw one poor guy fall in.
Overall, Cambridge was a cute town. I was sad that I couldn't actually go in to the colleges, but it does make an awfully funny story how they wouldn't let me in.
