Shortly after our trip to the West Coast, one of my friends found this unbeatable deal of flying to Bali (Indonesia) for 4 days and only 150$ roundtrip. Well, you only live once, so off we went for Bali in the end of April.
After a 6 hour, really pleasant, almost empty flight with Air Asia, we arrived in the capital of Bali, Denpasar Airport, from which we left to our hostel in the nearby town of Seminyak. Once we were in our hostel, we planned our remaining 4 days thouroughly. The first day, we hired a taxi for the whole day which drove us to the rice fields and markets of Ubud. In Ubud, we also visited the famous Monkey Forest, in which a huge population of monkeys lives. On the way back to our hostel, we also stopped at a coffee plantation where we got to do some different coffe-flavor tasting and information on the production of organic coffee.
The other day, we climbed the volcano of Mount Batur in the early morning to see the sunrise on the volcano. The climb was another aventure since it started around 3 am, it was no plastered way, no, it was an 2 hour (one way!) mountain climb which was really challenging due to its steepness and the uneven hiking trails, all worsened by the initial darkness and our tiny flashlights. However, when we arrived at the top, the view was stunning and the active (!) volcano was majestic and fascinating at the same time. At Mount Batur there is also an inner-cave temple, which we unfortunately did not get to see. At certain points, hot steam came out of the rock formations. This was truly an amazing, yet exhausting climb which I did not regret doing.
Another day, we just spent at the beach of Seminyak and Kuta to soak up some well-deserved sun. We had dinner in a lovely restaurant at the beach of Seminyak which served fresh seafood together with the sounds of the sea and an amazing view on the ocean.
On our last day, we drove to the famous temple of Tanah Lot, which is only accessible when the tide is out. We visited a number of different temples which was really nice and authentic for the Hinduist culture in Bali.
In sum, we spend 4 intense, yet relaxing and inspiring days in Bali which was just a perfect timing before the start of our final assignments for university.
