On Friday we hired bikes and cycled along the coast in Montevideo to the town centre and the historical town which was a really nice flat cycle along a promenade and much less dangerous than cycling around Buenos Aires! Montevideo is quite nice although at one point the 'tourist police' warned us off walking any further into a certain area as it was too dangerous and we might get mugged so we quickly moved on! The area we were staying was definately the nicest and the safest, although with less nightlife and restaurants but we always found things to do and people to chat to in and around the hostel. From Montevideo we got a coach yesterday and we are now in Punta Del Este staying with Rose's friend Ale and her family in an apartment by the beach. It's really nice and hot and we have been swimming in the sea today. It's a really good beach resort with a lot of wealth so everything is quite expensive but we're making the most of the luxury before our long coach journeys and more hostel stays in Brazil and beyond! Last night we went out to Ale's friend's house which was huge and had it's own swimming pool and wine cellar and we had dinner served by a maid which is apparently quite normal here! We're having to adapt to a new wasy of thinking in terms of time as everyone here eats really late around 10.30 or later and last night we didn't eat til 11.30! But everyone goes out later here too. We have big plans for the next few weeks including the Iguazu Falls, the Pantanal (expansive biodiverse wetlands in Brazil) and then to Rio de Janeiro for carnival so a hectic schedule but I'm sure it'll be worth it!
