It's now pretty cold here in the Great Southern, hitting the early teens in temperatures and raining on and off most days. It's not freezing though, still warm enough for a walk on the beach or a nature trail ( with hoodies in case of a sudden down pour!) We've visited some of the remote beaches in the last few weeks, including Middleton, Cheynes beach (for whale spotting), Little Beach in Two people's Bay and today we popped to Mutton Bird Beach, which had the classic trail down to the Beach and some 4x4 driving along the sea line which is interesting to see! It's funny that a lot of the beaches and national parks look very similar, lush and green with trees, rocky areas and perfect, if choppy, blue sea but I still crave visiting as many as I can whilst we're down here. Another strange thing is seeing pictures of friends in the UK in shorts and being out in the sun, as it doesn't even feel like it's August. The weather feels Autumnul in British terms and my body clock remains convinced that it's actually October. A lot of restaurants celebrate 'Christmas in July' and you can book in for an Xmas dinner!
The lucky thing is, now we've hit August,we can look forward to a slow build in heat! Soon (hopefully) we'll be back to Beach days and swimming in the sea, or in my case peering near the sea in fear of sharks...
We'll be down in Albany for a few months now, aiming to complete our 88 days of farm work, which keeps us here until about October. So we'll be trying to make the most of the weekends during this time! So while it my seem that we're not really travelling very much, we're spending this time saving so come October we'll be ready for our road trip up the west coast, stopping at Margaret River (wine and food..yum!), to see Dolphins, as well as stopping in Perth for a small trip to Kuala Lumper! Before carrying on up to Coral Bay and Ningaloo Reef just before Christmas (in December this time). Just a small matter of 58 days to go, and a bit of warming up to do..!
Accom: Albany Backpacker's, of course!
Highlights: walks on beaches at the weekend, quiet days with everyone out at work (we work from 3-11pm), Kate's Place for coffee when its raining, rainbows every damn day!
