Can't believe we've been down south for 3 weeks now! The weather has improved, even though it's winter now. It was so sunny this week I got sunburnt by accident (not good!) Luckily I've been working for a week or so, I'm now down to 81 days to go and counting! Once the 88 days are done, we can apply for a 2nd year working visa for when we want to return. Then I never have to step foot on a farm again! The last week we began pruning, both myself and Davide along with 3 others from Italy and France. With our newly bought car (new being the operative word-it's pretty beat up and only $900) we drive 1 hour, past Denmark (WA, not the country!) to a farm and chop off branches. It may be the worst job I and anyone else has ever had, but it pays well ($22.50 an hour-lots of farm jobs are piece rate so it's good) and most importantly, ticks off some of our days! We get to listen to music so I'm brushing up on my Disney lyric learning during the long and boring days! This weekend was a public holiday in Western Australia, so we had 3 days off to use our new car and see some sights of Albany and southern WA. On Saturday, we 'welcomed the whales' at the historic whaling station, which meant we got into the museum for free and got to look around the area where they used to catch and use the whales. As soon as we stepped out of the car, we saw some whales in the sea! We were even lucky enough to see them blow water into the air! It's definitely been a weekend of marine life, as today (Monday- WA day) we saw a ray (sting or manta- don't know!) in the water at Middleton Beach. It was a lovely, warm day today so we drove to a few beaches to have a look around, the water was so clear and blue! (Not warm water though sadly). Yesterday, we bought tickets to see the Albany classic car event, which is one of only 3 events in the world where they race cars around the streets! (Another in Aus and of course Monaco). The weather was warm and dry sunny for the holiday weekend, here's hoping for nice weather this week!
Accommodation: Albany Backpacker's forever!
Highlights: Warm weather, the surrealness of all the streets in town being closed off for the car race, rays in the sea!
