Seen as we've hit the halfway point and we've already done so much of our farm work, it does feel victorious, but it still feels so long until we actually get to leave (the date has been pushed back to 10th November now to earn a couple more weeks worth of money). Each week I seem to come back with more random bruises and aching muscles!
However, we've luckily got some small things to look forward to in the meantime. This started off with our first beach BBQ this weekend for the Silvia's birthday, complete with glorious weather and a lovely chocolate cake! David decided to try for a swim in the absolutely freezing sea but I decided just to have a small paddle, to avoid certain frozen death! The season of the whales is coming to an end, so we're finally off on a whale tour next weekend, with a few people from the hostel and some local people we know. Hoping to see some whale acrobatics in the ocean before they all disappear! The final September fun weekend is over the public holiday, which I just need to talk about for a minute. So this day off work is to celebrate the Queen's birthday, which 1) was like in May or something?! And 2) we don't get this holiday in Britain! Where the Queen is actually Queening! Anyway, it means a nice day off work for WA, and we (along with our whole hostel) are heading 5 hours east to Esperance for 2 nights. For Australians, a 5 hour trip is a 'short journey', whereas in England this would get you most of the way up the country!
It doesn't seem so long until the end point with little things to look forward to in the mean time, and luckily we get paid every week which keeps our motivation up!
We're also doing more cooking, making paella and my first ever time cooking steak, which I was pleased with! Living a pretty relaxed life here and looking forward to the weather heating up to enjoy our final 2 months in the Great Southern.
Highlights: first beach BBQ in the sun, with many of our hostel friends, booking and planning our short trip to Esperance, counting down the final 2 months until our WA road trip, kangaroo spotting at work!
