Ali's Travels
15th May 2005
Today we got up early, 6am!!!! We were collected at our Hostel by our guide Carlos, who was taking us to the Colca Canyon. Which is basically a two day tour, staying in a town called Chivay.
We climbed to the highest point on our trip to Peru, 4849m, the air was very thin, but I felt ok, that may have something to do with the Coca Tea and sweets I had had, yummy! The bus journey was very scenic, travelling through & around the mountains, with some of the roads being highly doggy, sheer drops off the side, made my stomach do several turns and not in a good way!
We stopped off and cafe for the Coca Tea, where I bought an Alpaka hat, it gets bloody cold here!!!! I thought I had left that behind in the UK!
In the afternoon, the group did a small trek, I passed on that one, the toilet was still being my best friend!!! At 6pm I took a local taxi up to the outdoor Hot Springs, where I met up with everyone. It was blissfull!!!
In the evening we had a dinner arranged at one of the local tourist haunts, where you basically get fed and watered and have the locals play music and do some local dancing, which was decidedly sexual!!! The Peruvians are very tactial people!
We then went to the local Irish bar (bizzare to find in such a small town) with Saffy, Stu, Jonny, Pip and Ramone (all from Oz) and Carlos.
