Ali's Travels
9th June 2005
Today I met up with Suzi and we hired a jeep and basically drove around east coast of the Island, stopping at all the Ahu Moai statues along the way. The statues are massive standing anywhere between 2m and 10m tall and beautifully carved out of Volcanic Rock from the Rano Raraku Volcano (also nicknamed The Nursery). Some stand with there backs to the Pacfic Ocean while others have been toppled over or destroyed by warring tribes.
There so much to see for such a small island, 45sq miles, its nice to have some else who doesn't mind stopping to take pictures of everything you see!!!
The Island is just beautiful and warm! There has been alot of deforrestation over the years and it would appear that they are trying to re plant alot of the trees, and the people are just the friendliest you could meet!
The weather turned in the afternoon and so we headed back into town and due to my hotel being a little on the expensive side and Suzi's being that much cheaper I asked if she minded putting in some laundry for me, which she didn't (funny story to come)...........
