We've been in Darwin now for about 8 weeks - staying with the Cook family for all of this time (haven't worn out our welcome yet...phew!), and are now planning the next leg of our journey into 2015! We're enjoying the atmosphere and sights of Darwin again and both of us working most days. It's starting to heat up a bit more now with the humidity rising as well, however, we've only experienced one short night storm, so really looking forward to some lovely rain storms before we leave. Alf has been doing truck driving work to deliver the 'grog' to all the places that sell alcohol - which is a lot in Darwin, as they even sell alcohol in supermarkets and service stations!
So, for a bit of sight-seeing, we drove out to Dundee Beach, Crab Claw Island and Mandorah to check out the places we never went to while living here 30 years ago. We had a great day out, although not being able to swim when you're feeling hot is a pity - unless you want to take a chance with the crocs and stingers! A visit to Berry Springs for a cool off on the way home turned out to be a lukewarm bath with the population of Darwin having the same idea! Still enjoyable though - Darwin is a great tropical tourist destination!
We've changed a few of our original ideas for travel and have decided to drive the van back to Brisbane for Christmas instead of flying back, and then from there we hope to follow the coastline to Victoria and SA, and then on to Perth and further north. Basically, following the summer sun!! Our plans could still change, but it's great to be able to be flexible in our travels. So, we're really looking forward to seeing our boys (young men!) and all of our family and friends again.... very soon!! (Can't wait!)
