This morning was another early 6:30 AM wake up call. Today we boarded the Paddywagon again and headed to Killarney and Dingle. The weather was unlike yesterday. It was a little chilly, grey and misty, but we are just thankful that the weather held up for the Cliffs of Moher. And honestly, it's not weather we aren't used to! We were very lucky to be able to see the beaches and some steep cliffs without any rain.
Our first stop was Killarney where we were able to walk around and explore the cute little town that if you blink you will miss it. I love it. It reminded me of all the other small towns and villages I love in Ireland, such as Bantry, Kinsale, Cobh, Midleton, and a few other favorites. There is nothing more perfect than all of the different colored buildings, pub smells and open shop doors when it's less than fifty degrees.
After our stop in the town of Killarney, we drove along the most beautiful road along the ocean where we could see the Kerry Mountains. It was GORGEOUS. The sun came out during this drive and it looked like a painting the clouds were fluffy, the sky was clear and all of this was reflecting in the water. It strangely reminded me of Costa Rica, but a lot colder.
Our first stop in Dingle was Inch beach, which was beautiful. It was surrounded by green hills and those hills were spotted white with sheep! It's lambing season here so there were many baby sheep roaming around. They were so cute! From Inch Beach we drove along Valencia Island style cliffs- the PTSD of the windshield blowing out from our Ring of Kerry weekend was in full force. The roads were very narrow and windy with no guardrails and a long , long way down.
Our last stop was of course the town of Dingle! It reminded me a lot of the fishing villages of Cobh and Kinsale. It is also a very small town, with cute shops, restaurants, over fifty pubs, ocean smells and Fungi the Dolphin! Dingle was a great day trip, I can't wait to go back someday soon.
Cheers!
