Although it seems there is a lot to do in Cusco, we almost feel after today we have seen most of it. With a little lie in, we then hit the local markets which we had been told were very cheap to buy souvenirs. We had been searching for a charm for Abigail to remind her of Peru. We had a thorough search of the market before deciding to get one with Machu Pichu and an eternity symbol on the back.
Next was the food market which had pigs head lying on the floor and the fowl stench was rancid. Going away from the vile odour we found the nuts and dried fruit section to make our own trail mix. Choosing to wait until tomorrow to get some we ended up spending a couple of hours in a local cafe. It was the only cafe I have ever seen which had a queue to get in, so decided we would wait a while, having carrot cake and a cookie which were both beautiful.
In the evening we decides to pretend we were rich and went into every nice silver shop in the plaza. The game then backfired as we wanted everything, from ear-rings to cuff links and bracelets.
It was when we joking around looking at paintings as well as jewellery that we were approached by a guy at art school. His paintings were good and informed us that the mountains of Machu Pichu formed a face which was the face of their god. His persistence was impressive, so trying to fob him off I said I had no money, to which Abigail took great delight saying she could lend me some. We eventually escaped on the promise that we would meet him tomorrow.
