Waking up on our luxury bus after an almost decent nights sleep things went from good to great.
A short taxi ride from Ica bus station to Huacachina, we arrived in a small village built around an oasis in the middle of the desert. The quaint village consisted of a few stalls, the rest made up of hostels and restaurants clearly surviving solely from the tourist industry.
Speaking to some other English girls who had negotiated a good deal for themselves, we asked for the same offer of a discounted room including free sand boarding and a sand-buggy ride.
Quickly freshening up we grabbed breakfast, scoped out the local area before grabbing some sand boards with Vicky and Steph and gave it a go. It was a lot of fun to try but it was safe to say none of us were naturals. Mainly choosing to slide down on our stomachs we occasionally braved standing up until grinding to a stop or falling off.
A pit stop for lunch and to make sure we didn't burn, before we then waited for our sand-buggy tour. It was amazing, bumping and rattling around in the back of the buggy going down hills with a vertical drop was like a less safe version of a roll-coaster. There were times where it felt like the buggy was about to roll, but the scariest part was the vertical drop, where the driver actually got out the vehicle before hand to assess it. No-one could believe we had done it but made it the best part.
Throughout the ride we also stopped to sand board down some steeper hills than before got the adrenaline flowing.
Concluding the ride at the top of a hill to watch the sunset, it felt as if we were stranded in the middle of the desert.
Having got back to the hotel, and an hour long shower later trying to get rid of all the sand we had accumulated, we went to book a morning trip to Balletas islands for tomorrow.
Then harassed by someone from one of the local restaurants who seemed to make us his new best friends, we had some food. Randomly showing us his English pounds as if they were an ancient treasure, thankfully the food made up for our over-exaggerated waiter.
We are so glad that we have choose to come to Huacachina in the end having so much fun and would recommend it to anyone!
