Our overnight flight from Dallas was great and fully loaded with entertainment options. We arrived in Santiago at 7:30 am and caught a ride to our apartment. It wasn't ready yet, so they let us sleep in an office and all four of us crashed for four hours on a couple of coverless twin mattresses. I had to repeatedly remind Moira and James that given their close proximity, one of them may be touching each other at any given time. And to get over it so we can sleep! At 1:00 our rooms were ready and we dropped off our stuff and headed out for lunch and a stroll. Saturday afternoon in Santiago equals crush of humanity in narrow thorough ways. Found a restaurant and opted for the same lunch our neighbors were having - a giant mountain of meat. Mostly because we couldn't read the menu. Turns out the giant mountain of meat included some organs, blood sausage, and tripe or intestines (?) - tasty but had the texture of undercooked chicken skin. James was a champ and tasted everything! Back to apartment for some reading. Dinner at 8:30 pm and the city was just starting to wake up. Walking past cabarets, families, beggars, feral dogs in heat, and empanada carts where we picked up an appetizer. Found a great Peruvian hole in the wall and made some (successful this time) guesses about what to eat. Back home to watch Reza Aslan's new show "Believer" on CNN.
