Today started at Lijssenthoek, which is the largest cemetery in Belgium. This is because it sits next to one of the large field hospitals. Apparently they used the large farmers sheds as the main operating area and these are still in use today for farming. This cemetery also houses some of the few American graves as most of the US troops killed during the war were burried back in the US. As you walk to the entrance of the cemetery you pass by a very effective sculpture that shows the numbers of deaths at the hospital from when it was opened until its closure in 1920. Many of the post 1918 deaths were from wounded soldiers or those killed during battlefield clearance, including many Indian and Chinese nationals.
