"Do you consider yourselves lucky?" asked the Ranger in the backcountry permit office. "Why, yes...incredibly" we responded." "Turns out there was a cancellation at the most sought after back country camp site in the park", he continues. "Right next to a couple rivers and a lake with great fly- fishing." SAAWEEEET!!! Also, we scored the last car camping site in the park that night and a parking spot in a small parking lot where spots are apparently impossible to find. Sometimes it's better to be lucky then good! In any case, Andrew's Creek campground was all ours. It's about 3.5 miles in on a very crowded trail that leads to several waterfalls and a few gorgeous high mountain lakes. From the trail you could watch large trout cruise the banks of the creeks and lake. No wonder people like this campground, all those people out day hiking and we were the only ones who could sleep out there! We got set up at our site, saw some elk eating by our creek, then took a little day hike up past a nice waterfall and to some more alpine lakes, where this photo was taken. Spent the evening trying to catch some of the nice resident trout that were oh so easy to see, yet quite tricky to catch! Managed to get a handful of gorgeous Greenback Cutthroats and one big Rainbow, the photos don't do them justice, of course. All in all, great couple of nights and days in RMNP. Awesome!
