Hi everyone,
Thought id send another update.
Since Nih Binh, we have traveled 4hrs north to Halong Bay and jumped aboard a beautiful wooden boat which took us on a tour around the bay. We managed to see some amazing sights and visited the caves on one of the rock island formations. From there, some of us did some swimming - (not me for fear of the jelly fish!) and watch the sunset at around 6pm. Its was stunning and so peaceful. We stayed on board until the morning and were given a variety of meze dishes to choose between and then arrived on land by 9am. Sadly we had to leave our exotic paradise and head south towards the capital.
Im now in Hanoi in Vietnam. Its pretty crazy here - in fact its none stop. You fear for your life every time you step out on the road in case you get knocked over by a several hundred motor bikes cominhg straight for you. Thankfully, my fearless nature helps in these situations but for others it seems to be quite a worry.
Well, ive only been here a day and a night but i have managed to visit quite a few places already. From P.O.W camps to Ho Chinh Minh Museum, the Water Puppets to coffee in a western style cafe eating a passion fruit cheese cake over looking the Lake.
All of it has been exciting - especailly the roller coaster ride on the cyclo tour last night around the city. You get a sense of what the city is all about. In fact, i wouldnt be lying if i said that not only are there barbers shops set up on streets (not in shops) but most of the time you walk on the orad as the paths are full of women who've set up shop cooking all sorts of concoctions. I havent try any yet but it all looks interesting. The landscape is so very different to being in Laos. Its a lot more developed (of course - being that its the capital) but Vietiane seemed so quite.
Well, im off to a lovely fish restaurant tonight which shold be nice. They cook a local dish where the fish gets bbq'd - it sounds delish!
Well, until i write again, lots of love
