We were up at the crack of dawn this morning to catch our train from Grays into London so we could make our 7:30am Euro star trip to Paris. The trip on the Euro Star takes about 3 hours, so with the time difference, we were in Paris at 11:30. We arrived at Gare Du Nord and caught a Metro (underground train) to a stop near our hostel (St Christophers). The metro is hot and stinky and looks confusing on a map but is not really that bad once you get the swing of it. The hostel is really nice and trendy with a bar and resturant downstairs.
We cooled off and had a bite to eat in the 'chill out' room downstairs until it was time to check in. After check in was sorted, we headed out to start the first day of our two day hop on hop off bus pass. The weather was much hotter than we had expected and we both ended up a little sunburnt.
We spent a large portion of the afternoon at the Eiffle Tower. We climed over 600 steps to the second level of the tower and then caught the lift right up to the top. We had to rest between each level because it felt like our lungs were going to burst and our legs were going to fall off. The heat did not make it any easier. Fortunatly, when you reached the second level you had to line up and wait to get the lift whcih gave us time to cool off under the mist machines that are installed in the roof. From the top of the Tower it felt as if you could see for forever and it was much higher than we expected.
We spent what was left of the day riding the bus and headed back to our hostel for dinner where we both had huge hamburgers (with the lot) and chips. We crawled up to the 5th floor where our room is and dove into our beds....thank goodness they are comfy....we didnt move a mucle all night long.
