Saturday. It was lovely waking up all snugly in my sleeping bag this morning as the sun streamed into the tent. Although hot during the day, it gets quite cold at night. Last night Aaron got a lovely fire going in the fire pit at our campsite, over which delicious pork ribs smothered in spicy BBQ sauce were cooked. We even attempted to cook marshmallows, then top them with chocolate and sandwich them between two biscuits. Americans call them 's'mores'. Sickly sweet but fun.
Today we did out big hike up to the top of a huge waterfall. While it was only about 4km walk, it seemed mainly vertical, with a rise of 600m. Spectacular views at the top! If you look at the photo above, we went to the top of the highest waterfall.
Lunch was had beside the bubbling creek that fed the waterfall. It was also a chance to slip our boots off and refresh our feet in the cool mountain water, and have a bit of a rest from the strenuous hike up. Going down was a lot easier but we were still very hot and sweaty by the time we reached the bottom. A quick decision was made to walk another km to avail ourselves of the pool and showers at a nearby tent 'resort'. Our first water immersion since leaving LV on Wednesday morning was well overdue. Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder! Drinks and pizza at the resort bar went down really well too, then picking up ice cream on the way, it was back to camp for desert and another lovely campfire.
