Our last stop in Poland - Zakopane. A beautiful ski resort at the foot of the Tatras mountains. Unfortunately no skiing yet but it felt cold enough for snow.
The town is very pretty with an après ski sort of vibe despite the lack of snow. Unfortunately the campsite was not really up to our high standards... well, actually my high standards (Dave's are somewhat in a different league).
We had planned to get the ski lift up the mountain then go on a nice long hike but the lift was extortionate even by British standards so we grudgingly hiked up from the bottom (usually I love this sort of thing but I had been ready for taking the lazy route). Passing the entrance to the national park we had to pay to enter, already my Northern roots were starting to show and my temper was starting to fray. The hike up was beautiful and very rewarding. We walked up to a little lake with just one duck braving the rather cold miserable weather; obviously I felt sorry for it and shared my sandwhich even though the sign said don't feed the birds.
Back at the bottom I had to pay nearly a pound to use the toilet! It was all a little too much and I was ready for Slovakia. I was ready to pee for free!
