Excited about our first foray into Eastern Europe, we headed off from Zinnowitz to the Polish boarder at Swinoujcie. Heading out of Swinoujcie we were just commenting on how impressed we were with the Polish roads when the freeway appeared to end abruptly in a lake!... fortunately we then realised we were at a ferry crossing which would take us about 400m to the other side...not entirely sure why they couldn't have just built a bridge!
Arrived at the seaside town of Mielno about half-way to Gdansk on the North coast, quite looking forward to my first opportunity to try out some Polish at the campsite. The exchange went something like this (in my best Polish accent): Dai - "err...po Angelo...err...Angelu...err...Angeleski... po Angeleski??" Attendant - ".....(blank, puzzled expression)" Dai - "Do you speak English?" Attendant - "Yes". Dai - "How much is it to stay for one night with a campervan and two people?" Attendant - "50zl". Dai - "Thanks". I think the Polish may need a little work yet!
In the evening had a nice wander along the beach to the main town centre to find what looks like it would be quite a vibrant, bustling resort in the middle of summer...but which was completly dead in the middle of September.
