Hey Sports Fans
Another week, another blog! So Glaciers are fun. To be honest I had no idea what it was, let alone what to expect. Now luckily, this is an educational trip (drinking is learning right) and I learnt all about glaciers and stuff. We did a half day trek up the Franz Josef glacier, whixh is an advancing glacier (ooooooo). Basically, its blue and very cold, pretty to look at though. The guides (British) were really nice and very knowledgeable, they even spent twenty minutes digging a new place for us to walk through. I say walk, I mean slide sideways till you get stuck, then breathe in as far as you can to get to the end, FUNTIMES! You'll be pleased to know I did not get stuck, a woman in fron of us did though HA!
SO that was that. Then we travelled to Makarua (excuse spelling) which was cool, little wooden huts and Kareoke, what a mix. The views however were breathe taking, unlike the singing. We visited a few lakes and a freezing cold Blue Pool.
Next was the amazing town of....... WANAKA! I love this place. Magpie (our driver) tells us that reall Kiwis go there on holiday instead of touristy Queenstown. Who cares, they have puzzle world, and by jove it was puzzling. Giant maze and illusion room, what more could Dave ask for, happy as a pig in..... The other very cool thing about Wanaka, apart from the stunning lake, is the Paradiso. This is the coolest cinema ever. The seats are old, really comfy sofas, there is a car in the middle which you can sit in and at half time YES HALF TIME you can have meals, cookies fresh out the oven or homemade ice cream (I can recommend the white choc and Baileys)
After that fabulous place, Queenstown had a lot to live up to. And to be honest its not that great. There's lots of expensive scary things to do, but its really small and full of crusty backpackers!!!
We signed up for canyoning, oooooo eeeeer. The outfits were enough to make you love it before you even reached the canyon, full wet suit, with boyancy aid, NICE! We had a really nice trek through the woods then arrived at our canyon. I was so scared. They showed us the first jump and I thought I was going to bottle it. Dave went first, he was amazing, and then it was me..... not so good. We were told that no matter what not to lean to far forward, so between me over correcting, and the guide pulling me back I hit the water with an almighty smack and knocked every tiny bit of breathe out of me. I'm pretty sure the weird noises I was making was the scariest thing. After I got myself sorted it was a fab day, we slide down rapid waters, jumped off more rocks into plunge pools, climbed up rocks and abseiled back down again, it was fab. Then however came the zip line down the canyon, I went first, oh dear! I was hooked up to the line and told to climb round a boulder, well he didn't tell me what to do once I got there! Then I dropped a bit and nothing happened! I thought I'd broken the stupid thing. Then I slowly started moving down, like zip lines should. Once I'd got down a bit I could see both the guide at the top, working away frantically to pully me down and the guide at the bottom, and they were looking at each other as if to say, "I DON"T KNOW!' WELL NEITHER DID I! As i got closer to the bottom guide I shouted apologies at her, turns out it was not my fault, no I wasn't too heavy. In fact they said it would have helped if I'd eaten more pies!
The whole day was so much fun,if not tainted slightly by the fact that I cannot move a muscle today! I think I'm getting old. And thats us. MISS YOU ALL xxx
