Arrived in Melbourne on 5th Feb and were here for 11 nights altogether, we had 3 nights in the city at Flinders Station Hostel and then went to Base Backpackers in St Kilda for rest of time. Hostel in the city was awful, dirty and cramped but hostel in St Kilda was lovely.
Went straight out for a look around when we got there, sussed out where the shops were (priority of course!) and found a lovely Mexican restaurant called Taco Bills near Chinatown!
On our first full day decided to do some sight seeing, firstly went to Fitzroy Gardens and saw Captain Cook's Cottage. From there walked to Melbourne Museum, very disappointed when we got in there as they have taken out a Neighbours set which they used to have! Next we hopped on the free City Shuttle bus and went to the South Bank for lunch. Then got the free bus back to Flinders Street and went for a look around the shops, window shopping of course ;-)
Next saw us having to spend our first nights apart in nearly 3 months!! Becky F had to spend three nights in hospital as had an infection in my armpit from an ingrown hair and had to have an operation!! All is fine now and only a tiny scar to show for it!
Meanwhile Becky B's parents were in Melbourne for two nights so luckily Becky wasn't on her own. On their day together they went to Mount Dandenong and Phillip Island to see the cute little penguins!!
On the sunday we were in St Kilda it was the final day of the St Kilda festival and there was a lovely market on, a few different music stages and other little random things going on. Spent the day wandering around everything.
Next day didn't do much during the day as were saving ourselves for Neighbours Night!!!!!! Yes we are sad but this and visiting Ramsey Street are the highlights of our trip!!! hehe. At the night we met Rachel, Dylan and a new teacher Daniel, plus the legend that is Dr Karl Kennedy!!! Got pictures with all of them and then saw Karl play with his band Waiting Room. On the wednesday we did our Ramsey Street tour, which was juat as fun! Went to the school first and then the street itself. The street looks loads smaller in real life than it does on the screen and got to have our picture taken with the Ramsey St sign. Next we went to the studois and waited to meet our star! We were all sat in anticipation waiting to see who it would be, we thought we would get someone new who we didn't really know but then who should get out the car......Susan Kennedy!!! The whole bus were very excited to meet Susan (yes there are more saddos out there!) and we all got pictures and autographs with her.
Valentines Day we spent on a day trip along the Great Ocean Road! Was a really nice day and even got to see the lighthouse from Round The Twist! Places we saw are: Torquay, Bells Beach, Airey's Inlet, Split Lighthouse, Memorial Arch, Kennett River, Cape Patton, Apollo Bay, Maits Rest rainforest, 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge.
On our last full day met up with Ben, one of the Aussies we met in Thailand, for lunch and had one last wander around the city centre. In the evening had a few drinks in the hostel bar and went in to Melbourne for a couple of drinks. As it turned midnight was Becky F's birthday !
Back to Sydney next day!
