Got to Cairns on 2nd Feb after taking our last trip on the Greyhound bus! Stayed for three nights at Serpent hostel, was a nice place just a bit out of the centre of Cairns. Went for a wander around the centre on our first afternoon there and did a bit of shopping, every other shop seemed to be a souviner shop!! Also booked trips to Port Douglas and the Barrier Reef for the following days.

On the Sunday we went to Port Douglas which is a pretty little town about an hour and fifteen north of Cairns. As it was Sunday there was a little market on so went there first and then had a wander to the beach. However we hate to say this but it was actually too hot to sit out in the sun!!! So relaxed in the shade before getting some food and heading back on the bus to Cairns. That evening we went out in Cairns and met up with some people we had met earlier in the trip...plus ended up bumping into lots of other people met along the way. Seemed like we had all done similar trips and ended up in Cairns at same time.

Next day we did a day trip to Green Island in the Great Barrier Reef, gorgeous island but again was a bit too hot to sunbathe!! As part of the trip we got to go on a glass bottom boat and semi-submarine to go out into the reef on. Both were really good and great way to see a bit of the reef, saw lots of pretty fish!!! If you ever go here watch out for the evil birds though!! We were eating our lunch and they kept swarming around us, one even tried to snatch Becky B's sandwich out her hand! Other than the birds was a great day!

Onto Melbourne next!
