Had a great time here! Love the Old Town and spent most of our time there. So much history and a bustling place - street vendors, ladies in beautiful traditional dress selling vegetables, packed buses and lots of cute toddlers being dragged along with wooly hats over their eyes! So many churches here and religious imagery everywhere!
One of my favourite things was climbing the towers of ´Basilica del Voto National´. You drag yourself up steep ladders the whole way up to the spire and stand on wire mesh at the top to peer over the street ! Love the fact there is no liability here - you´re mad enough to do it, if you get hurt it´s your fault!
Discovered the local lunch specials(alumerazos) - $1.50 for 3 courses and a drink! It´s tasted gorgeous everytime we´ve had it! We get seated at a busy table and start chatting away to the locals! They are unbelieveably friendly here and teach us lots of new vocabulary! We are loving snapping pictures of daily Ecuadorian life - so many interesting things to see!
Luckily, we arrived in Quito for the annual festival. A week of madness! We hit the streets to see some of the parties... the plazas are packed with everyone dancing, singing and lots of Quito flags being waved. Quito won the local football championship so everyone was in great form! Local firewater was sold with a sweet warm mixer in huge saucepans at the side of the street for 25c. Good but strong!!! Great atmosphere!
