Kota Kinabalu is the capital of the East Malaysian state of Sabah in North Borneo. It used to be called Jesselton but was completely destroyed by American bombing toward the end of the second world war. It was named after the highest mountain in South East Asia in 1968.
We arrived at 8.00am and tied up at the Port. Later we took a shuttle bus into town and walked along the seafront through the Central Market and Bazaar and onto the waterfront esplanade where many local boats were coming and going.
After much searching in very hot conditions we found the Sabah State Mosque with it's gold-inlaid dome and pencil-slim minaret in the Ottoman Turkish style. As it was very hot we decided to go back to the ship for lunch. Anna spent the rest of the afternoon in the laundrette. Very exciting!!!

Angela A woman's work is never done, wherever they are in the world, but think I might swap given a choice. Sounds as if you are really enjoying yourselves. I am still loving following your incredible journey. Xxx
Noreen Wow! That was quite a long stint at sea wasn't it but must be fascinating to be weaving your way through all the islands in Indonesia. I hope they have plenty of look-outs on 'pirate watch' now, Chris. You're in dangerous waters now, you know! N xx
