We did a quick sightseeing trip to Kuala Lumpur. Our scenic drive took us first to the National Monument. This huge bronze monument was built to pay tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in the war against the communist insurgency in the 1950's. Then on to the National Mosque with its 240ft high minaret and multi-folded , umbrella like roof. Nearby was the Old Railway Station, inspired by Mughal architecture and features seven minarets. 

Our next stop was at Independence Square, which was the old playing field of the elite Selangor Club. This club still exists  in the mock Tudor building with its male only bar. Nearby is the Cathedral of Saint Mary The Virgin and opposite the Sultan Samad Building, which served as the government administration during British rule and now houses the Law Courts. Next to this is KL's oldest mosque with it's onion shaped copper domes and the 'Big Ben' style clock tower which also has a copper dome. Our final photo stop was at the famous Petronas Twin Towers.

What a shame that we had to get back to the ship, the Malaysian Grand Prix was set to start the same time that we had to depart. Just heard that the start of the Grand Prix has been postponed because of heavy rain. We did have some heavy rain on the coach drive back to the ship but dry now as we leave.
