Due to our size (that is the ship, not us), we had to berth at the container port, the largest in the world. It was massive! There was a shuttle service provided to the harbour front where we took the M.R.T. (Mass Rapid Transit) train into the centre of town.

We eventually found our way to the Merlion statue which stands 8 metres high at the mouth of the Singapore River. It is tourist symbol of Singapore - a mythical beast said to be half lion, half fish. At this point we got on a river boat for a cruise around the Marina Bay and up the river. This gave us an experience of the changing fortunes of Singapore from a fishing village to a trading port. We spotted the white statue of Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore, and old buildings blending in with the new skyscrapers. After alighting from our river boat cruise we enjoyed relaxing in one of the many seafood restaurants. Suitably refreshed, we carried on walking around, eventually arriving in Chinatown, which was brimming with vitality. A couple of purchases were made, and then back to the ship for a welcome cool shower and reflection on another wonderful day.
