Keeping track of murray
Had a fantastic week away... Booked onto the 6pm bus to Tupiza and made the mistake of walking to the bus station again, i must learn to take a taxi. Got stopped by a 'policeman'outside the bus station. Another scam. They show you fake ID and tell you they have to check your passport and try to get you to go with them, after which they rob you. Luckily it's another one I had been told about and ?%$! off seems to understood, but not a good start to the journey. Met some aussies on the bus who were victims of Bolivians telling you what you want to hear. They were going to Potosi and were told the bus got there at 6am. They were a bit surprised when the bus rolled into Potosi and 2.30am in the morning. Got to Tupiza at a more respectable 9am and met Lucy and Kirstin at a really nice hotel with pool and yummy breakfasts. Went out in the evening and watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid to put us in the mood. Then we booked a horse trek for the next 3 days. The horses were really cool, fit and healthy and raring to go. Not at all bored, but very well behaved. Lots of galloping through desert and rivers it was really cool. Kirstin started to suffer by lunchtime and had sore bum, knee, back and everything else by the time we got to the house where we staying. Cold beer soon sorted that out, but we were all in bed by 8pm. Except for the guides who I think must have found a bar in the middle of nowhere as I heard them coming back about 3am sounding v. happy. We started off at 9am the next morning, but aborted 3 days trek for a short cut back to Tupiza. The saddles were very metal and our backs and bums had finally given up..... not quite butch cassisdy. We did a jeep tour the next day, but didn't manage to make it to where butch and the sundance kid got shot cos it was 50km away and the driver wanted $120. Not worth it for a picture of a sign saying 'here death butch and sundance kid.'
Kirstin left for Argentina on the 3am bus... while Lucy and I had a lesiurely lie in and got the midday bus back to la paz. We thought we had got really lucky with this, until the sun went down and the cold set in. I had all my clothes on and my sleeping bag, and i still couldn't feel my toes until about 4 hours after we got back. Made it to La Paz at 5am and struggled home, only to find i was locked out. Consuelo and Vania had had a party the night before but i managed to get them up about 7am.. at least the dog was pleased to see me.
Back to work today, after a v. tiring weekend. I had to go to a party with free beer!
