Ok so on to Koh Lanta. Not too much to say about our time here, we spent 4 nights most of which I was ill with this darned tummy problem, not too much fun for me nor Tom.Also the weather here wasn't the best, bit rainy and everyday was overcast, not really beach weather although the beach was lovely so it's a shame. We spent the first night in a basic bungalow near the beach, it was quite noisy so the next day we moved to another resort spending a bit extra to get a nicer bungalow as it seemed we were going to be spending quite a lot of time in it.It had air con, a tv, a posh 3 poster bed (don't ask!) and a hammock on the front porch, quite a luxury for us!We did manage to venture out a few times, once to watch the sun set on the beach and to a pharmacy to get some different tablets for me to try which didn't seem to work at all.
On Sunday (27th Nov) we were due to leave for Koh Lipe.I was really bad on this morning couldn't keep any food down at all (sorry if that's too much info!) so needless to say wasn't looking forward to the 3 hour trip on a speed boat!!!! I survived it anyway and as the boat pulled up on the beach on Koh Lipe (no pier on this tiny island) I loved it straight away.Looking for somewhere to stay we walked to the beach on the other side of this island, only a 15 minute walk from one side to the other!Found a nice little wooden bungalow on the beach so we booked a night and paid the lady-boy our money (there seems to be more than the average amount on this island!)Once settled in we went and found a clinic, the doctor (or nurse, we're not sure) decided I probably had salmonella and gave me some other tablets which seemed to work, after a day or so I thankfully felt a lot better. So after the first night in our little bungalow I got up in the morning and went into the bathroom.Had a bit of a shock when I saw a cockroach and a frog just sat there on the floor, felt like I was interrupting some kind of wildlife meeting!! Colin soon scuttled off but Fred just stayed there so I carried on and had my wee hoping he wasn't watching me! A bit later I could see something else on the floor and on closer inspection it looked to me like some kind of droppings…like a rat or a mouse!!!!Now this is when I got scared, most of you know about my fear of those things (Tracy Shingles if you're reading this remember how much you scared me that time with the rolled up pair of socks!!!!).So after breakfast we went off up the one and only main street on the whole island, to look for somewhere else to stay.Somewhere a bit more secure to keep out any small intruders!!!!Tom tried to convince me that the droppings were only from the frog but I couldn't be taking any chances! After we found somewhere in town to stay we spent some time on the beach, I still can't believe how quiet and peaceful the whole island was!Beautiful sandy beach and clear water, the type of thing you only see on a post card, and a relaxed little town with a few bars, restaurants and shops!Tuesday morning we got up at 5.40 am and stumbled out onto the beach to see the sunrise, even through my bleary half closed eyes it was beautiful. After going back to bed for a few hours we spent the rest of the day on the beach on the other side of the island, oh what a hard life!
Ok best bit coming up!!....This evening we wanted to go and watch the sunset on the 'sunset beach' so we got ready and headed over there. When we arrived there were quite a few people sat on the one side of the beach so Tom wanted to go around to the other side where it was quiet and sit on the rocks. This confused me slightly as the view of the sunset was not quite the same from there but he reassured me that we would have a nice view of the beach as the sun went down, which I went along with and joined him sitting on the rocks.Next thing I know Tom is down on one knee with a ring!Well I was so shocked, for a minute I thought I was having one of those day dreams that you suddenly snap out of and zone back into real life! But no, it was all real and we went and had a lovely meal of fresh barbequed fish to celebrate (after I'd phoned to tell my Mum, Nan and Stephie!)
Wednesday we enjoyed out last day of Koh Lipe and Thailand on the beach and then had a nice meal of chicken and cashew nuts and chilli prawns in the evening.I spent the day with that funny excitable feeling in my tummy, wonder why!!
