As expected, Bangkok was crazy crazy town!! As it always is!!
We arrived at around 7am and found our way from the bus terminal to the taxi rank. It took us about 15minutes of staring with confused amazement, trying to work out the process of being allocated a taxi!! There seemed to be a wide 8 lane road with a little island dividing each one, a 'queue' of sorts( more like 65 separate queues) and a few people in orange jackets standing on the islands waving their arms and putting people in the right place, to get the right taxi, which seemed to be only going to certain destinations. Not what you need after a 14hour bus journey…
After making eye contact with the orange jacket man, shouting our destination at him, shouting louder over the crowds to be heard, and then shouting one more time even louder and with an attempt at a Thai accent on the road name, we were shuffled onto our island and shimmied into our taxi… Away we go. Taxi turn Rally car, our favorite thing!! Trying to convince the man that his idea of charging us 250 baht was a bad idea, and he best just run his meter took most of the half hour journey. Still, 100 baht later, once the meter and car had been stopped, we arrived at our Hotel, "Sleep WithInn."
However, check in was not possible for another 7 hours, so instead of sleeping with in, we walked around. Khao San Road, still sleeping from the night before, street markets being set up for the day to come, and STILL, Indian suit tailors standing on the streets offering me suits! No escape!
We spent the day buying a few 'legally alternative' DVDs from a fully reputable street sales man, and spent the rest of the day chilling exploring our new surroundings just off of the Khao San Road until our roomcinema for the night was available for check in.
The following evening we met our German friend Horst, who we first met in Krabi, and drink followed drink after drink….. Bangkok comes alive once alcohol is added to the mix!
We ate cockroaches and maggots. No more to say on that.
Checking out of BKK to head to Chang Mai in the morning….
Lovely Stuff…
Peace and Hung over Flip Flops
