Siem Reap is a lovely little town, much more The Cambodia I had in my imagination...

Small communities, family run business, dusty roads splitting green fields and farm lands.

Day markets, night markets and floating markets. People selling local fabrics and delicacies. And tshirts for tourists with the same Asian cliche slogans on them.. "Same Same," "No money no honey," etc etc....

Most people come to Siem Reap to vsit Angkor Wat and the temples surrounding it.

These temples are still standing from the 10th century and quite magnificent. The size and number of these temples is overwhelming. The complex is so big, a 3 day pass is necessary for some to visit them all.

We woke up at 4am to watch sunrise over Angkor Wat, a pretty sight worth a pretty photograph.
A sight shared by the two of us and probably another 5,000 tourists all with their cameras set up and their flash at the ready... Pretty non the less.

We wondered around all day, amazed at the detail of carvings and construction of these huge buildings. Seductive to look at, they suck you in and it is truly like looking into a magical world of the past.
Over 10,000 years of people admiring these buildings.

We finished the day by visiting Ta Phrom, which was the temple made famous by Lara Croft and The Tomb Raider movie.

An immense structure which appears roughly as it did to the Europeans who rediscovered the ruins in the 19th century. Roots and trunks intermingle with the stones and seem almost part of the structures themselves.

We leave for Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, which is our first flight of about 7 in 3 weeks.... If only we collected air miles!!!

Cambodia is an awesome place, worth another visit at another point I think, this time, without the bum wee.
