We've had 2 lovely days rubbing shoulders with the rich & famous of Monte Carlo. 'They' live in a whole different world of diamonds, Maserati's, yachts & haute couture. Nice for a visit but not really our scene. Our Fairmont Hotel was built into the cliffside & neighboured 'The Casino' of James Bond fame! Of course we had to try it out on Thursday evening & after 2hrs of speculating we went home with the same money in our wallets as when we'd arrived, so in our minds we'd ended the day as winners! We dined at a lovely Italian restaurant by the Harbour where it only cost €23000 per wk for the 'boats' to be moored there. These 'boats' were very spectacular, each worth much more that our whole house! Think we'll happily settle for our home, sweet home. Yesterday we wandered the markets & Promenade of Nice. (historically home to many famous people like royalty as well as authors & artists.) Yesterday evening we attempted to master Petanque (similar to boules) before dining at a 5th generation local restaurant where Queen Victoria dined several times a wk during her regular interludes at the seaside in Nice. After a delicious dinner where rotisserie lamb Provencal-style was the hero, Charlie finished the evening with a couple of glasses of a local drink that was described as 'grappa with attitude'! After getting his breath back & his sinus cleared, Charlie reinforced that this was an appropriate description! On the way home we drove to the highest point of Monaco where we had a beautiful night-time view of it's entirety as it overlooks the Mediterranean. Very surreal & magical!
