Today - we cross the border from the Northern Territory into South Australia, and continue heading south to a small opal mining town called Coober Pedy. The odd ball thing is that most of the population lives below ground. It's much cooler than the 45 deg heat that the normally have to deal with on the surface. Of course when we turn up, its only in the high 20s, and spitting with rain. Nonetheless, we have a tour through a mine, and through a typical underground house, and they're pretty cool. Just like regular houses with artex rendered walls, and no windows. We progress to a bar that night, also underground.
I should add at this point, that some people on the tour have been carrying out small dares. Well, as we have to head into the bar, my dare happened to fall on the head of a chap called Clem, who had to run into the crowded bar screaming 'the aliens have landed'. Funniest thing I've seen in ages. More so as the area around the town has been used to film such notable titles as Mad Max 2, and Pitch Black. In fact, the space craft from Pitch Black is parked up next to our bunk house!
