This morning, we started to make our way out to Milford Sound, a two hour drive out from Te Anau into a Heritage Parkland. The drive has got to be one of the best in the world. The scenery is stunning, and seems to change around every corner. There are lakes so clear that the mountains are reflected in them (Mirror Lake), and huge mountains with avalanches of trees. Today, we left Queenstown, but not before taking a ride out to Skippers Canyon. I wish I could have taken a photo to show the road. It's a rough hewn miners road cut into the side of the mountain. Just about narrow enough for the bus we were on. Google it and take a look. At the bottom of the canyon, we boarded a jet boat for a quick blast at 80kph on the river, inches from shear rock faces. The guys who pilot these things are nuts. Awesome fun though! ...

Today, we've been in New Zealand's adrenaline capital: Queenstown. A bit of a slow start, we had a drive into town, and walk around a Kiwi sanctuary. We saw some Kiwis, and some pretty birds. Following this, a quick ride up the mountain in the cable car, to ride the luge. The luge is a plastic go kart that you sit in. There are no pedals, only brakes. Sounds a little slow, but actually great fun. I nearly tipped over a couple of times!

Today, we're in Franz Josef, where there is a glacier. It's a peculiar place, because the glaciers come down from the southern Alps, to within a few km of the sea. We actually woke up with big plans to spend the day ice-climbing up in the glacier. That didn't work out, as the weather was so poor, so instead, we were going to just spend the day hiking. Not a lot to report today. We finished the drive across to the West Coast, and ended up near Punakaiki, where there are some rock formations that look like stacks of pancakes. Also, a café nearby that sells pancakes - and they're huge. A good day all round!!
