We're spending a couple of days in Bodrum which is a bit of an English package holiday destination. All the prices are in pounds and Euros with loads of shops and kebab stores just like in London. Like Peter Kay says in his stand up "it's just like being in England, only with better weather". However, being off season there's only a small portion of the people who come here to party in the height of summer. You get the distinct feeling that this place becomes a hive of drunken tourist bees hitting the bars such as Disco Halikarnas, the biggest in the Mediterranean. At the moment the bars are dead so for us the experience is completely different. Yesterday we checked out the Museum of Underwater Archaeology which is situated within the walls of Bodrum's castle, awarded the best museum in Europe only a few years ago. The castle was pretty cool too, with panoramic views of the coast and the pretty, white homesteads and resorts that line the hillsides. The courtyard is filled with birds including an albino peacock... maybe it was something a little more exotic... but hey, I'm no bird expert.
It seems that the longer we spend travelling the more we think about our favourite past time, eating! Even as we finish our last olive at breakfast, someone (usually Jodi) will inevitably ask, "so, what's for lunch?" and so then we take this time to plan out the entire menu for that day. In Bodrum we have found a fantastic restaurant that serves the most delicious bread. It's complementary... that's right, it is for free! :) The bread comes to you inflated with heat like a zeppelin balloon which you fill with butter and cheese until it melts, making a sort of dairy bootie, and then scoff the lot. We ate so much food that we thought we'd explode and because we came back for a second night they treated us like royalty. Complimentary cocktail and Turkish tea and a friendly customer service that we're not used to.
