First night in the tent, it was extremely warm. Drenched in sweat. Yuck. Woke up around 6:00am. Went and got a shower, got dressed for the day. Got back to campsite and tried to make coffee in the Jetboil. Let me tell you I failed. HahA. Going to have to continue to practice. I did however drink the watered down coffee that it did make.I got the campsite packed up rather quickly. As I was driving towards exiting the park deer jumped out , was able sit and watch it for a few minutes. Stopped at the park office, browsed the store and checked out. exiting the park office I made my way to Cedar falls, this area was also dry so no waterfall but still very cool as you could see where the water usually is created a gorge. From there I went to Ash Cave , this location was really awesome. The rock formation was super cool, and was somewhat of an open cave. Hard to explain. After exploring this for about an hour, I made my way to the fire-tower, climbed to the top and sat and took in the fresh air/nice breeze. I highly recommend the Hocking Hills Natural Area.
I left there around 11:00am I began my travel northwest to Elkhart Indiana, I took mostly backroads which led me to see lots of farm land. Forgot how flat it truly is out here. A lot of the corn has already been harvested, while the subways are still in the field. Coming through the small towns, I came across some Amish buggy’s . Was not expecting that. Apparently there is a decent settlement here in Indiana. There buggy’s are all black and oddly shaped more like a closed carriage out of a western movie. Neat looking though. I finally arrived after traveling over 400 miles to Elkhart. The weather here was completely different rainy and in the 60’s. I contribute the change to the lake effect from lake michigan. I was happy about the cooler weather . Leaves are still slowly changing in the area. Does feel like Fall. I arrived one of my friends from TEAM RUBICON Jeff‘s house and we went out to dinner at this very cool brewery.we had a few beers and ordered a pizza. Oktoberfest is on tap so thats what I choose to consume, it was tasty. We chatted and caught up. Then back to the house we’re i met his lovely family. Went to sleep around 10:00pm.
Only a few days into my trip, it has been good, understand what it is to feel lonely though. Nice to be here in Elkhart with friends.
