Began my morning at the same time around 6:00am. Woke up to wet feet again . It was a treacherous night. Did not sleep the best at one point I thought my tent was going to flip over. Why did I decide to camp right on Lake Superior this time of year. It was cold too got down to 38 degrees and it poured down rain around Midnight. i made it through, thankful for another day. Still trying to figure out this jet-boil. Made coffee but still had coffee grounds in it. I got everything packed up and as I was leaving the park decided to check out the beach area. Didn’t stay very long. It was way to windy and cold. Someone had built a little shanty on the beach . kind of cool. I exited McLain State park and made my way up The Keweenaw Peninsula it is the northernmost part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The drive up was beautiful as the leaves are at there peak here.
I made it to Copper harbor and found my way to Estivant Pines. The Estivant Pines is the largest tract of old- growth Eastern White Pines preserved in Michigan. Went for a nice 1.2 loop Hike. It was very quiet. I enjoyed walking in the forest and checking out the old white pine trees. I saw some chipmunks and I believe red squirrels. The trail was very well marked and taken care of. the scenery reminded me of PA. the smell of the forest was delightful.
After the hike stopped a few places along The way back through Copper Harbor. Saw some waterfalls and an overlook of copper harbor. Traveling south and on my way to my next campsite. Stopped and visited the Eagle River lighthouse , was able to go in and look around. Amazes me. The light shines on the harbor continuously everyday 365 days of the year. continuing South I came across the old Quincy Copper mine which produced a lot of copper. The mine was owned by the Quincy Mining Company and operated between 1846 and 1945, although some activities continued through the 1970s. The Quincy Mine was known as "Old Reliable," as the Quincy Mine Company paid a dividend to investors every year from 1868 through 1920. (Wikipedia) . It was really cool to walk around history. Didn’t find any copper but it was cool. As I made my way through Michigan after spending two days traveling all across the coast of Lake Superior, what beauty my eyes have seen. Never knew that Michigan harvested lots of Grapes, Blueberries, and Apples. I’ll be back there someday.
i returned on my drive. I found upson falls and stopped and explored. As I left there I cane across the town of Montreal Wisconsin. Found this old dive bar. Walked in and was treated by the owner. I orders the 100%beef burger stuffed with cheese curds. And it was surrounded my fresh cut fries. I washed this delicious burger with a few spotted cow Pilsner brew. i must say this burger was so very good. I give this place 5 stars.
I made it to my campground at 9pm set up rather quickly. Hope tonight is a little warmer. And no rain.
