Arrived in Ica after 1.5 days on a bus which is not as fun as it sounds. We then got straight into a taxi to Huacachina about 5 mins from Ica. It was amazing, its a tiny village surrounded by sand dunes and it´s built around a lagoon.
We found an awesome hostel and had a much needed shower and swim then got an over priced bottle of wine and walked to the top of one of the sand dunes to watch the sunset which was beautiful.
The next day we went into Ica to check out the local museum which was full of mummies and really interesting, they made us pay an extra $3 to take photos of the mummies but it was worth it. We then walked around the rest of the town which didn't really interest us that much apart from buying the local drink in a plastic bag. We then headed back out to the sand dunes where we did some sand buggying and sand boarding at sunset which was really good. The Sand Buggy was a bit scary for me kinda like a roller coaster. I think I embarrassed Junior a bit by screaming so loud. We did some stand up sand boarding and then some sand boarding on our stomach which was good fun and you got really really fast down the dunes. Junior went so much further than me for sure but I was a little chicken.
The last day in Ica we went on a winery tour which was intersting. We decided on hiring a taxi for a few hours instead of doing a tour which was way more expensive for what you got. So the taxi took us to 3 wineries. The first one was really nice once you drove through the local communities, the rough roads and security to get there. They were a commercial winery. The next one really just had Pisco Sour which is the local Peru drink it was good to vist but tasting shots of Pisco sour at 40% was a bit much. Although the guide we had was quite funny at first because he was learning english and kept using english slang other tourists had taught him, although hearing 'innit bruv' and 'what are you looking at? Am i wearing something of yours?' 20 times got a bit annoying. The last winery was crazy, the taxi man took us on the tour himself and then showed us all the ancient artifacts and just weird crap the owner had collected over the years. He everything from inca things hundreds of years ago to stuffed turtles and sea lions ad muskits. It was all just sitting round in the cellar collecting dust.
We finished back in Huacachina and then got ready for our 16 hour overnight bus to Cusco.
