We had a 7.30am flight to Rurrenabarque which only was 50mins from here we booked in to a hotel before walking around town looking for the best offer on the Amazon tour. We knew that we wanted to do the Pampas Tour which was a 3day 2 night tour. We looked at most companies and picked the cheapest which was 600BOB (just under $100US) because as we had found out before what they promise you and what you get in Latin America is 2 different things.
The tour started at 9am so we had to meet at the office before heading off in a 4WD jeep for 3 hours. Our legs found it hard to walk after that trip as there was 10 of us in this 4WD. We stopped for lunch and then it was back in the jeep for 20mins till we reached the river. The boat was waiting for us so we hopped in and had a 3 hour trip till the lodge where we did a heap of animal spotting. We saw the pink dolphins, heaps of birds and plenty of monkeys. Once we arrived at the lodge it was better than expected, we all got a private room and then whole lodge was on stilts as the water was 12m higher than the dry season. That afternoon we were taken to the sunset bar where we had a few refreshing beers (and I lost another wallet) and then back to the lodge for dinner which was good considering we were in the middle of the Amazon.
The next morning it was a 8am start and then in the boat with our wellies on and it was time to hunt for anacondas. We reach the only part of semi dry land and then we found ourselves trekking through water up to our waste (well for some people above our knees, so much for the gumboots!). We walked for about 1 hour and then we started walking back to the boat and then our guide comes running over with an anaconda in his hands. It was about 1.5m long so just a baby. After our find it was back to the lodge for lunch and a siesta.
After the siesta it was time to swim with the pink dolphins. On the way we saw heaps of beautiful birds and a few pink dolphins but the first few that we saw didn't look that playful. Then the guide stopped in this kinda bay and he jumps in. We could see that the dolphins where around so after some reluctance as these were the same waters we were ment to be piranha fishing in over the next few days, we all jump in. Our guide started laughing and then a pink dolphin fin pops out the water he has got hold of it. At first we thought this is not good but the dolphins seemed to love it. I'm sure if they didn't they would have just swam away. They came up to all of us and we could even grab onto the tails and have a swim with them. I know was probably not good but at the time is was so amazing. After about 40mins in the water with them and a few little 'love' bites to the toes and feet we hopped back in the boat. I was wondering why the guide had his feet out of the water and later found out that it is because the dolphins will bite them playfully for them, not so much for us.
Back to the lodge for dinner and then a night trip to spot crocodiles. We see this eye from the distance and the guide steers the boat over to it. He walks to the front of the boat starts leaning over into the water and then about 10mins later he pulls out this baby croc which was only about 20days old. Again probably not the best thing to do.
The next morning it was an early start at 5.30am. We first went for a quiet boat trip to listen to the birds wake up and then headed to a flat pampas area where we watched the beautiful Amazon sunrise. After the sunrise we went back to the lodge for a quick nana nap until breakfast was ready. After a quick breakfast we headed back in the boat and it was time for piranha fishing. We cruised to our guides secret spot and were fishing for about 3 hours and between the boat we caught about 6. Junior and I both caught 1 and then the guide caught the rest. We had a quick lunch before heading back to the main land and time to get ready for another 3 hour jeep trip.
That night back in Rurrenbarque we went out for dinner with a few people from our trip and then ended up catching up with Maddie and George who we met on the tour and were supposed to be in La Paz but their flight was cancelled.
Our last day in Ruree we spent the day at Oscars Pool which is a pool set high on the mountain with a view over the town. It was such a nice day just chilling by the pool and resting.
We flew back to La Paz where we spent the next few days.
