Banff National Park
Day 3
Another early morning for us as we headed off to see Lake Moraine. The Lake is set in the valley of the ten peaks and it just simply dazzles you. In my opinion it is much nicer than Lake Louise as it is more remote so there is little hustle and bustle and lots of beauty. It's looks so inviting you just want to jump in, unfortunately you can't really as it glacier water. We walked around the lake and it was a lot bigger than you can see people were kayaking on it too. We walked as far as we could around it until you couldn't go any further. There was a lovely small waterfall at the end.
We then did a hike just to the left of the lake around 3.6km long. This was the best hike I had ever done, I can truly say I enjoyed every minute and that's saying something for me considering I'm not a keen walker. I think it's because it was so varied, there were steps, flat paths, wooded areas, riverside paths, scrambling over boulders and the most amazing ending which once again can't even be described in justice to its quality. I felt like I was on Mars and had never been to such a place. (See picture with this blog)
We stayed at this magical place surround by mountains, water and forestry for lunch and then hiked back.
We noticed that everyone we passed on this trail had bear bells on their wrists, we didn't have them, luckily we didn't come across any bears. The bells are actually to let the Bears know your there as it is more dangerous for you to sneak upon them than to let yourself be known present.
We then headed back to the town and rented a bike for an hour to ride along the bow valley river. Now this river is 587km long so we only did a small section but it's a great flat ride for mountain bikes with some good stop off points. The river is also this beautiful turquoise blue like the lakes and it just makes everything look better haha. It was nice to have a break from all the hiking and get on some wheels!
After another long and and energetic day we tried the Italian restaurant at our hotel and you could create your own pasta dish, it was really good. Kirsty even said that the best pasta meal she had had for a long time...
