Banff National park
Day 4
Today we opted for a more relaxing vibe and went over towards Banff town to ride the gondola up sulphur mountain over looking the bow valley. It's named after the thermal springs that emanate from its base, this peak is a perfect viewing point. It takes less than 10mins in an enclosed cable car to get to the top, or you could hike to the top zig zagging on a 5.6km trail. No thanks!!
Up there we walked along the boardwalks to sanson peak which is an old weather station. Before there was gondolas or even proper trail paths a man walked up that mountain over 1000 times to collect weather data and he would stay in a small shack at the top which you can still see today.
It's definitely worth a visit up here for the views alone.
We came back down on the gondola in search for bears as we haven't seen one yet! :(
Luckily only 5 mins walk from the gondola was the upper hot springs, so we settled in there for the day. It was a lot smaller than I had expected and very busy but still nice and relaxing with 40'c water overlooking the snow capped mountains. We kept going in and out in 10 minute rotations as it was just so hot. Kirsty nearly kept falling asleep! Haha.
We leisurely drove back along a quieter road to do some wildlife spotting. All of a sudden there was masses of cars parked up either side of the road and people stood tKing pictures. Kirsty pulled over and it was a massive moose putting on a show for us and posing for the camera. So cool.
Back at the lodge we got ready to go out for a meal. We had been passing this restaurant called mountain view which we wanted to check out. We wished we never had. Food not very nice, no atmosphere and questionable chicken!
Good day altogether though xxx
