We head further north and back to the start of our trip, Auckland! Unfortunatly we pass the same points and roads as we did leaving so nothing too exciting but gave me more time to kick my cold!
We had already decided to stay in a hostel we had escaped too after our Base experience. We were checked into a smelly boys dorm!! But it was only one night! We went for a quick shop to buy some warm clothing for the South! No crazy body changes this time.
We checked out the Minus 5 bar and thought we would treat ourselves to a Bar experience like never before, however when we returned to get ready the unthinkable had happened.... Someone had gone through my bag and stolen our food money!! So out of pocket we had to cut back starting with no treats and more yummy noodles but nothing too fancy.
There are lots of unwritten rules in travelling and in 12 bed dorms you have to trust everyone and in return you hope they will earn your trust, but unfortunately there are exceptions who let everyone down! Hopefully that's what insurance is there for!!
Not dwelling on bad times we just enjoyed the sunshine and relaxation before we became excited, yes excited about joining the old travelling days of overnight buses!! It is exciting jumping on a bus and having to use skills to find your destination, however we are not use to this and struggled the whole journey! No sleep, uncomfortable and so many stops not fun at all!
We arrived to windy Wellington again! It was stupidly early and cold! With no sleep and heavy bags we found our bus and worked our way to our hostel! Being too early we couldn't check in so we lounged out caught some shut eye and had some brekkie!
With still more time to kill we set off to Wellingtons biggest attraction "Te Papa" the national museum!! Yes we are off to a museum. It was on the harbour front and the sun was shining but the wind was still there, it was beautiful. Luckily when we arrived it was a free museum, and it was a brilliant one. We learnt all about the local wildlife, saw the only Giant squid on display. We learnt about the national disarster, NZ actually lies on a fault line so has lots of active volcanoes and many earthquakes which continues to change the landscape. We went on a simulator for an earthquake and then learnt more about Maori cultures. We enjoyed our time but were ready to head back to get some more sleep. We were glad we were just staying the one night in Base, and confirmed we won't be staying in any again it was dirty and run down.
The next day was spent wondering the shops. We had our flight to Christchurch but had some time to kill first. Suprisingly we enjoyed again having to sort ourselves out without being spoon fed from a bus company, at the airport it was worrying we got onto the plane without showing our passports once!
The flight journey was hilarious no longer had we taken off and the stewardess had run around giving out drinks, the seat belt light went off for no longer than 5 mins then it was on and we were descending!!! It was the quickest journey ever but still it made me sleepy!
Going through the departure lounge we were super super excited for we were in Christchurch, this was uniquie in we were about to sample a piece of HOME!!
Bridie one of best friends from home was living and working in this town and we had a whole weekend of adventures planned!
To think we had set off on our travels at different times, flewn half way around the world and now were meeting up in a small town in NZ!! It was what we all wanted and mor importantly needed..... A HOME FIX!!!
