After our crazy expensive day we decide to head off to Wellington early instead of hanging around Taupo. Figuring that Wellington is NZ capital we should be able to hire a campervan and set off on our own for some adventures around the North keepig cost low....that was the plan!
Apprently it was to be a long bus journey consistig mainly of driving, but this journey had nothing on some of our previous journeys so we were happy! We didn't have many touristy stops main just toilet breaks.
When we arrived into Wellington the driver showed us around the city and showed us the main spots, we then drove up the top of a hill to get panaramic views. The street we drove up was small and windy I'm suprised they could fit the coach up there! As we drove up we saw loads of nice houses nestled into the hillside, garages were positioned below the houses and being so steep they had stair lifts to their front doors!!
At the top of the hill top we all jumped out and understood why it had the nickname Windy Wellington!! The winds we so strong you could lean into them and not fall over, brought back memories of skydiving!
Back at the base and checking into our hostel we set about trying to sort out our campervan! But it appears although in the capital it isn't the capital for tourist and as such don't have any depots! So our plan had failed. Some quick thinking was needed and so we decided that we couldn't hang around in Wellington for the next 8days for our flight to Christchurch so we were going to use up our Magic bus pass and head back up the loop to Auckland, stop longer in Taupo and see some of the other sites!
Our new hostel offered us a free bar snack of Nachos, wasn't anythig fancy but it filled the void and was free so no complaints! Then we wondered around a very dead city, returning our feeligs back to non city girles!
Off to bed early after a cheap and uneventful day!
