We have spent the past 2 days in a tropical paradise called Phu Quoc a small island off south west Vietnam nr Cambodia. It's amazing! Blue sea and White sand. We have been sharing a room with a girl called Merry. Mainly spent our days lazing around in the sun- as much is possible for me!! Cocktails a plenty and massage on the beach. On the whole i've Managed not to get burnt, apart from the odd streak missed by the once a day sun screen- only presenting it's self when it's far too late! We have been snorkelling and fishing- no we didn't catch anything! We made a bit of an error with our planning- we didn't book the ferry in tine to guarantee a seat on the fast 8am boat, so we opted for the cheaper local option. It was a smaller boat- for locals only. The air con was set to arctic, and the tv was playing vietnams version of xfactor deafeningly loud-this only meant the locals just had to shout louder to converse with each other. The steward then came round handing out sick bags and anti sickness pills- what had we got ourselves into??? No sooner than the boat set off the vomit wave began- starting with the baby sat next to me. Yummy milky vomit all over the place. It was all we could to to focus on anything other than the sick smell throughout the boat. We soon learnt the best strategy for managing this was to keep our heads low in the arctic air con blast - no smell here ( easier said than done when the seats are made for persons 5'0 and under), to only look out of the window, and only leave the seat if 100% necessary. The boat docked we had arrived in 1 piece! The locals directed us to a small local bus to HCMC for more than the locals paid, but less than the tourist bus. The concierge fella on the bus removed some locals from their seats and positioned us in them Roo and I squeezed our long legs in to the seats painfully. We were staring down the barrel of 6 hrs of this! Thankfully after 2 hrs some people got off leaving Roo and I to the whole back seat to ourselves- winner! The bus emptied as we continued towards Saigon. Eventually we were dropped off at a bus station on the outskirts of town. Immediately as we stepped from the bus we were swooped on by people offering us taxi's- one guy tried to snatch out map away so we were not able to find out way. We eventually were directed to a local bus that took us to our final destination- for the bargain price of 4000vnd (12p)!

Matt Huber Aside from the bus parts, I am most certainly jealous of the sun and sand. Though I do love the massive snow storms we've been getting!
