So on Wednesday 16th December we finally left Alice Springs to continue north. We passed some pretty interesting places along the way, the first being a little town called Wycliffe Wells which is Australia’s equivalent off area 51 in the US and A. Apparently lots of little green men are seen each year and the walls in the dinner are a kind of tribute to that. Next was the Devils Marbles a collection off huge roundish rocks in funny formations, the local aborigines believe that the rainbow serpent from the times of creation passed through and laid her eggs!
We reached our destination for the night a small speck on the map with a population off 9 – Daley Waters. It’s basically a roadhouse / pub which is absolutely awesome inside the walls, ceiling and basically anything that is accessible to stick stuff on is covered in mementos left by the visitors following a small donation to their children’s charity. After we erected the tent we had a drink in the pub and done a little planning for the coming days although we fear a serious decision is close to being needed to made!!!
The following morning we had beans on damper for breakfast which was great and really set us up for the day. Wolfie made the tough decision to leave his Liverpool shirt on the pub wall as there was only Newcastle and Sunderland already represented from the mother country. It was cool we signed it and stapled it to the wall leaving a little bit off home in the heart off the outback and hopefully an appearance in the Liverpool program. It was a pretty average day not much in between Alice Springs and Darwin so we didn’t really stop anywhere.
