Eden to Manly
Friday 21st November to Wednesday 26th November
Coastal New South Wales
Once we arrived in Eden on the southern coast of New South Wales it started raining and really came down, luckily we had just gotten of the beach before it had started and safely in the camp kitchen cooking dinner. Corinne woke on Saturday the 22nd November in a foul mood because of the weather, she had hoped the entire time we were going to be away from Melbourne it would be gorgeous and sunny. We drove most of the early morning stopping at a few towns along the way including a proper look around Eden before eventually arriving in Merimbula. We done some shopping including Christmas decorations for the van and had a Starbucks coffee. We stayed in a nice van site that night Wolfie had a dip in the pool before we went to watch the new bond film 'a quantum of solace' which was just awesome! Sunday 23rd November was just another rainy day and Wolfie being very in a very British mood decided to go for a swim in the miserable weather whilst Corinne washed her hair. On the way north we stopped in the old mountain towns of Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba which are both old and heritage listed. Central Tilba had some cool little shops including a cheese factory, chocolate shops, a couple of hippy shops and lots of gift type places. After a look around and some lunch we left and in an attempt to cheer Corinne up we played spot the termite mound when we got out to take a picture next to one Corinne fell over it and onto it causing a massive termite earthquake (was very funny though). Keep seeing loads of roo's and wallabies which is weird it seemed like last time we were in Australia in 2005 we struggled to see wildlife and now there's loads. We arrived at the night's destination which was Batemans Bay not far to Sydney! Finally some sunshine on Monday 24th November and we ventured to the Bird land animal park in Batemans Bay leaving another picturesque campsite right on the waters edge. We got to met loads of rescued wildlife including 2 boisterous baby wombats called Connie and Matilda who were rescued from their mum's pouches after road traffic accidents. We got to meet Connie when she came out at 1130 and we all had a hold she had a run around bumping into a few people's legs before going off for a sleep. We had a look around the rest of the park were there were loads of screeching lorikeets, talking cockatoos and echidnas amongst the native wildlife. In the afternoon we had a nose around Mogo which had more hippy shops before putting some km's underneath us and getting to Kiama point. We had a look around Kiama point the next day on the 25th November taking in the local blow holes and light houses. We walked around the harbor and old town finding an English sweet shop and got some big haribo cola bottles. In the afternoon we passed through Shell harbor and Wollongong before getting to Katombaa deep in the Blue Mountains. Blue Mountains Was yet another dull and drizzly day so we hit the internet café early in the morning waiting for the clouds to clear before leaving to do the touristy stuff! Once the clouds and fog had lifted we went of to scenic world. First up was the steepest railway in the world which takes you down into the rainforest for a walk around the old mining areas and seen some of the lyre birds searching for food which a bunch of Asian people seen and started taking pics of probably thought they could eat them. After a walk around a little more taking in the sights, sounds and smells we took the cable car back to the top of the mountains. We then went across on the glass bottom cable car that traverses a gap between to crags, and then you can walk across the middle over the reinforced glass looking hundreds of feet into the valley below. Finally we walked down to the three sisters the famous landmark of the Blue Mountains said to be 3 sisters of an aboriginal tale, Who upset a mythical bunyip and to protect them were turned into rock and there protector into a lyrebird who is for ever searching the forest floor for the means to turn them back. After the days fun and games we drove back out towards Sydney stopping around an hour or so outside the city for the night.
