Will-and-Marge's Great Adventure to Alaska
285 miles to next stop
Time leaving: 10:00 a.m. 71 degrees
States seen: Missouri, Iowa (Kansas and Nebraska seen across the Missouri River)
1165 total miles to date
Today's Saying: Not every day is a good day, live anyway.
We got a late start today, had some intermittent trailer brake problems Sunday and yesterday. We took the unit to Camping World this a.m. and they found a short in the wiring in one of the axles. Our wait though, in the waiting room was interesting, to say the least! We started chatting with another couple and discovered that they grew up in Altoona, PA, where Will grew up too and Marge lived there for 6 years. They have a daughter who lives in Springfield, MA, where we lived for 17 years. AND, to round it out, they have a Grandson in the Navy at Pearl Harbor, just as our Grandson is as well. We had a lot to talk about.
Needless to say, we got a pretty late start today, not going til a bit after 10:00 a.m.
We passed the KC Royals Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium. Of interest too, we saw a huge church with the Angel Gabriel on top of the spire, blowing his horn. He was encased in gold.
As we drove almost due North on I-29 we stayed just East of the Missouri river, the border between Missouri and Kansas and Iowa and Nebraska.
Factoid: As we drove by St. Joseph, MO it came to mind that this was the starting point of the Pony Express route. A distance of almost 2000 miles, the route of the Pony Express was brutally simple: west out of St. Joseph, the eastern portion of the route followed the Oregon Trail from Kansas through what is now Nebraska and Wyoming.
Arrived: Onawa, Iowa; @3:30 pm, at On-Ur-Way RV Park. Temperature now is 44 degrees.
Our campground host is retired Air Force.
We will be here now through Wednesday located near the Nebraska Indian Reservation.
Next stop is Oacoma, SD; the Oasis Campground.

June Chamberlin Wow, you are making good time, covering a lot of ground! And love the 'coincidental' meeting with the couple while waiting for trailer repairs. Sounds a bit like a divine appointment to me!
Bill Glad the brake fix wasn't major. Unbelievable meeting your clones in the waiting room!!
Steve Townsend Great stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Kevin Hurt God has His purposes and plans for those unplanned interruptions and delays!
Glenda Doesn't sound like you experienced too much of a a delay. Covered a lot of territory. Will miss you tomorrow, Marge.
Charly Boone Got caught up on all your posts It was a problem on my computer. Even with the delay you made good progress
Clay Welsh Glad you were able to get the trailer brakes fixed before you ran into any serious problems. Weather hear is warm and sunny. Teri celebrates her 75th birthday today. The time does go by. 73 from Sebring I'm not a robot leaves a lot to be desired.
Penny Ward Wow that was interesting meeting those people. Maybe your brakes acted up for a reason!!!
Tracy Abbott So glad the problem was a bad one. Funny that you stopped at a Camping world. My daughter and her husband deliver campers all over the country for them. You are making great time. Love the posts.
