We headed back to Kuta Beach with our two new drinking buddies - Bluebell & Matt/Max. We had given them the address of our hotel & they managed to get a room there as well. They too had had enough of the quiet of Ubud & were ready to get to grips with the Kuta nightlife.
We thought we would ease them in with an 'all you can drink' 2 hour Heineken challenge from 6pm - 8pm!! We decided to have a little chill after this & so went to watch the Man Utd v Liverpool game. What with Bluebell & Matt being from Manchester, I took great delight in watching Dirk Kuyt smack a hat-trick past Edwin Van Der Sar to secure a 3-0 Liverpool victory!! We then headed back to the Skygarden Bar to carry on the night, finally rolling back indoors at around 4am! A good night all round me feels.
The following day was not quite as fun for me. The day started ok with a chill by the pool, but then we made the fateful decision to get some mopeds to the beach. We got on the mopeds at around 13:30pm & all of 45 minutes later I was admitted into BIMC hospital, where they informed me that I had broken my collar bone. Bad times! By 5am the following morning, I was heading into surgery to have a metal plate inserted into my clavicle. Thankfully, my travel insurance covered me for the surgery & hospital costs, otherwise I would have been 3 grand out of pocket & looking at an early end to my travels. I have to say a massive thank you to Joel, Matt & Bluebell as they spent all their time in the hospital with me & playing Uno. They could easily have been out & about enjoying Kuta (especially seen as Matt & Bluebell had only known me for 48 hours).
After scoring as many from the hospital as possible, I finally discharged myself on the Wednesday & re-paid my 3 companions by taking them out for an evening at the Skygarden (where else?). Due to the concoction of medication that I was on, I was unable to drink, but I made sure the others still enjoyed themselves.
On our last day in Kuta, we strolled to the beach (seeing as Matt had been in Kuta for 4 days & still had not seen it). We all topped up on items that we needed (sunglasses & flip flops) & had great fun haggling with the stall owners, who were quoting ridiculously expensive prices. Needless to say we won the haggle & bought everything that we needed. That evening we all headed to the airport, we said our goodbyes to Matt & Bluebell (who were going to Christchurch & Melbourne respectively) & then boarded our own flight to Darwin & start our adventure down under!!
