6 June Windjana Gorge
After a much more chilly night than what we’ve become accustomed to, we slept in till 6am! We will have adapted to WA time by the time we leave . Morning routine was punctuated by a rather angry nomad crying out for someone to unlock the toilet he was in.... Stu v certain it wasn’t him even though he’d just been over there!
Once in the gorge we opted for the longer 7km trek along the river bed. Great excitement at seeing the first freshwater crocs for the trip, who were sensibly across the wide river from the humans. Some were quite large, and so not bothered by the people traipsing past them. A little further along they were swimming in the middle of the river and sunning themselves on our side. They were given a wide berth once it came to the crunch, even #4 kept a respectful distance!
The spectacular limestone cliffs around the gorge used to be a reef when all this area underwater, can really imagine coral growing all over them and fish darting in amongst the holes.
Afternoon’s activity was Tunnel Creek, en route to said destination as we got our HP fix, Stu managed to twist out his 2nd tooth so outback tooth fairy needs to remember to come tonight! Pretty cool walking through a cave for 700m, glad of reef shoes and torches. Gromads everywhere, they’re so lovely and interested in our kids, but I really wasn’t expecting so many people on the Gibb. Must be packed out in July.
Kids managed to disgrace themselves after they’d all had a shower (solar showers here at campsite bit of a bonus) no one will own up who or exactly how they managed it, but they came back with the frog out of the toilet in a drink bottle.
State of Origin being blared by one campsite and their kids running wild, these mean parents had their kids in bed at 7.
