8 July Friday Bell Gorge
Pancakes for brekky using up our last 3 eggs, before setting off a bit after 8 for Bell’s Gorge, only a 10km drive. Car park had quite a few cars already for the keen beans who got there early.
Walk in pretty easy, past a beautiful stream bubbling along beside us, down to larger pools and then the pool above the falls. We opted for the further grade 5 track to the lower pool which was totally worth it- bit of a trek involving wet boots and bottom slides down some large rocks. Matt coming out with some gems from cadet days- reminding us to keep 3 points on the ground at all times whilst descending. A few of the more intrepid gromads were whooping like teenagers down at the bottom pool, water was pretty cold but most of all the rocks were slippery as anything, some very undignified entries from the adults as we lost footing pretty much straight away! Got the hang of it after a while and Matt and I alternated spending our time with Stu and eventually we all made it under the falls with a combination of back floating and monkey walking.
Beautiful morning beautiful place. Pretty hard walk out in places - we did pass an 88yo lady traveling on her own and hiking out - hope I’m like that when I’m her age! Spent rest of day chilling, bit of painting with kids and catchup on blog for mummy- not that I can publish it?! A family from Vic pulled up next to us with 10/11 year old kids so invited them to share our campfire with wood we’ve carried since Flinders. Turns out their little girl is 2 days older than Lil and their mum 1 day older than me- bit freaky?! Girls were great little buds, both do same gym level as well, hit it off straight away and stayed up v late chatting and mucking about. Was nice for Lil, not much fun sometimes on trip around her 3 brothers all the time. V late bedtime for us tonight 10pm.
